Challenge Course

The other night, Kate wanted someone to go for a walk with her. This doesn't happen often, so I got her quickly out the door before she changed her mind. Rather than pace around the neighborhood, we headed for the metro park. On approach, we did an excited fist bump when we saw that the challenge course was finally open.

But before we got there, we had to stop by the new playground. This one is just right for older kids, with climbing walls:

Rope climbs:

A place to chill:

And a zip line:

Then it was on to the challenge course. We've been watching Survivor lately, so the kids were excited to try their hand at this kind of obstacle course.

It starts with a tire run (I came back with all the kids later):

Monkey bars:

Balance beams:

And a tunnel to crawl through:

Then the wall climb:

Across the post tops:

Over and under the logs:

To the climbing ropes:

The rope cross:

Then the swaying log:

And the stilt poles:

The net wall:

Followed up by a final wall jump:

My personal favorite section:

One tip for the challenge course: it helps to be tall, except for the tunnel.

A few nights later, Henry and Kate were at my parents' house for the night, so Sam and I headed out for a ride. To Jeni's:

Sam asks, "Do you have to post this picture?" Next time, cooperate for a picture!

Riding the Clem, of course:

We stopped to work off the ice cream:

Then rolled on to the metro park. Sam tried out the new climbing area:

He wasn't big on the zip line, but he was excited for a few laps of his own for the challenge course:

It's great to live next to the metro park. With the new playground and challenge course, and our new interest in disc golf, we're always heading over there for something. I need all the help I can to keep these kids away from their screens!

New Bike: Vaast A/1

In the middle of the summer, I got an itch for a proper gravel bike. I have several bikes that are perfectly adequate to ride on gravel road...
